‘Just a Farmer’ is the result of an idea fostered and produced Leila and Sean. This is a full-length movie about a newly widowed mother who is left with the care of an alcoholic father-in-law and a failing farm. She is forced to forge a new path for her family, all the while struggling to pick up the pieces of her life. The movie was filmed in and around Tatyoon with quite a few locals involved. The main stars of the film are: - Joel Jackson as Alex, leading man and loving partner of Alison. Leila McDougall in her first acting role is Alison. Damian Walshe-Howling is in the role of Ollie, with Robert Taylor, starring as Alex’s father Owen.
Executive Producer, David Gregory OAM has this to say about the film – “Over the years I have had the great honour to be involved in some incredible projects. Just a Farmer is an incredible movie that authentically explores the impact of farmer suicide and the resilience of those left behind, is perhaps the best project I have had the opportunity to be involved with. Leila McDougall and her husband Sean have created a masterpiece that will have an impact and make a difference. Australian cinematic history will record this movie as one that truly reflected Australian farmers and explored an issue that must be addresses. I am so honoured to be involved as an Executive producer and will forever be grateful that Leila and the extraordinary team at Just a Farmer have allowed me to be involved”.
Leila has warned us to bring the tissues, but not to worry there is plenty of laughs as well.
